Released at the 2008 CES show in Las Vegas, Samsung i8 digital camera is equipped with a 2.7” touch screen LCD, PMP (Personal Multimedia Player) with integrated MP3 player, and a text viewer. It measures 90.7×58×19.9 (mm) and weighs 116g (without battery and card). The slim, shiny 8-megapixel camera also features an in-camera 3x optical zoom, and face detection.

Now, I’d like to share some tips to use the Sansung i8:

  • On the top of the camera, as well as a shutter and power button there’s also a Face Detection button. Turn this on before you shoot a portrait, the i8 will detect a face or faces in the frame and optimise accordingly.
  • Press the ‘M’ button on the back, you can change the Shooting Modes from the common ‘Portrait’ and ‘Landscape’ modes to the more unusual like ‘Food’ and ‘Café’. You can also press the‘Fun’ menu to capture some more unusual, quirky images, complete with speech bubbles if you want to create something a little different.
  • When you want to add MP3 files onto the Samsung i8, drag and drop your required files into the MP3 folder. Without the headphones plugged in, the sound will emit from the camera’s speaker, with pleasing results.
  •  Use the camera’s bundled Samsung Converter software to upload video. Just keep the application up and running, drag the required file into the window space, check the export settings and press ‘OK’.
  • The Travel Guide feature is very useful, you can find a lot of information on selected countries and cities, such as geography projects or local custom.

Pro:    Sharp images,
           Good noise performance,
           Media functionality.
Cons:   Poor audio quality,
            Sluggish performance at times,
            Colour balance not so good
            Poor face detection performance
