Available in silver, grey, blue and pink for $229.99, the Canon Digital IXUS 95 IS (also know as the Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS) is very popular in digital camera market. Now, let us have a brief review:
Classic IXUS design
The Digital IXUS 95 IS has a light, compact design that slips easily into a pocket or purse.
Megapixels
A resolution of 10 Megapixels lets you turn photos into poster-size prints, or creatively crop images without losing the detail necessary for larger prints.
3.0x zoom
A 3.0x optical zoom lens gives you total framing flexibility when composing shots. Canon’s optical Image Stabilizer works to deliver blur-free results throughout the zoom range.
2.5” LCD
Frame and review shots with a bright, detailed 2.5” PureColor LCD II, which is protected against light reflections, scratches and dirt. A wide viewing angle lets you easily share images with friends.
High speed DIGIC 4 processing
Canon’s DIGIC 4 processor drives exceptional processing speeds, responsive operation, superb image quality and colour reproduction. Richly detailed, cleaner images, even at high ISO speeds, are the result of advanced Noise Reduction.
Scene Detection Technology
Smart Auto mode uses intelligent Scene Detection Technology to identify the scene based on brightness, contrast, distance and overall hue. The camera then selects the most appropriate scene mode – from a choice of 18 – to obtain automatically perfect settings, for effortless point-and-shoot operation.
Anti-blur with Motion Detection Technology
Motion Detection Technology uses a range of advanced methods to ascertain movement of both camera and subject, plus the speed at which this motion occurs. The optimum ISO is then automatically set for any situation.
Face Detection Technology
A suite of Face Detection technologies detects up to 35 faces in a shot, adjusting focus, exposure, flash settings and white balance – for optimal results with natural-looking skin tones. Faces can even be detected in profile, at an angle to the camera, or from long distances. FaceSelf-Timer takes a shot when an extra face is detected in the frame – making group photos easy.
i-Contrast
i-Contrast analyses a scene during shooting or playback, then boosts brightness in dark areas without blowing out light areas. This helps uncover previously hidden detail in the shadow areas of an image.
Pros:
Design and finish; simple operation; inclusion of an optical viewfinder
Cons:
Zoom range; mediocre lens quality; expensive compared to rivals
Symmary:Like its predecessor, the Canon Digital IXUS 95 IS can best be summed up as an undemanding snapper for the unpretentious photographer. Again the sturdiness of its build quality is very impressive, as is speed of operation, design, and overall ease of use. There’s no media card bundled with the camera.
We can’t even nit pick this time about the levels of noise apparent in the mid to high ISO range. The IXUS 95 IS acquits itself in this area better than many of its competitors and indeed appears improved on its forebear. Shame its colours are slightly drab when the camera is left on its default settings, but as we’ve noted, by switching to Program mode and selecting the ‘Vivid’ colour option, such grumbles are silenced.
All in all, Canon Digital IXUS 95 IS is not a bad choice.
