Dell has come up with XPS high end laptops with 14, 15 and 17 inch models. The XPS 15 has clunky and bulky design along with stellar speakers.

Design:
The Dell XPS 15 does not have great look.It sports a matte silver anodized aluminum lid that doesn’t pick up fingerprints, but its somewhat dull color doesn’t impress.

Port:
The ports are rear facing where back lip is used for each of it. It sports various ports that includes Mini Display Port, HDMI, a USB 3.0 port and power jack. It provides a user friendly desktop but is a bit tough for lap use. It tries to keep the wires out of reach by acting nearly like a dock.

Keyboard and touchpad:
The XPS 15′s backlit keyboard offered reasonable tactile feedback and no flex at all, The keyboard enables fast typing and is very responsive and comfortable. Above the keyboard sit a few status lights and three touch-sensitive buttons. The first button launches Windows Mobility Center, a mini control panel that allows you to easily manage your Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and display settings. We particularly appreciated being able to set the keyboard backlight’s brightness. The second button is user-configurable and the third button launches Dell Audio by Realtek, an audio control cetner.

The large 3.9 x 2.2-inch touchpad on the XPS 15 has a surface that offers just the right amount of friction and smoothly executes multitouch gestures such as pinch-to-zoom. It also has two discrete mouse buttons that offer good tactile feedback, a huge benefit over competitors that make you click the entire pad or force you to deal with a single button that clicks left or right.

Performance:
The Dell XPS 15 has a bright display with true colors. The performance has increased up to 137% with use of Intel Core i5 processor when compared to Core 2 Duo generation processors. The NVIDIA GeForce graphics makes XPS 15 a gaming machine too. The annual power consumption cost is $6.38. It has a 6 cell battery. The battery performance is a bit disappointing which lasted for 2 hours and 26 minutes. It has one year limited warranty.

Dell Studio 1458 comes with a sunken hinge design; there is a power jack below the screen hinge. And there is a light indicator next to the power jack. The light indicator can let us know whether the adapter is working properly or not.

Laptop + Battery + Adapter = 2.996kg

Dell Studio 1458 is not a light product, so adding the battery, it increases the weight to 2.579kg, and after all, 9-cell battery does add a lot of weight.

If you want to know Dell Studio 1458 excellent or not, you can’t judge it just according to its appearance, the internal structure will tell you the truth. Through the construction of this machine, I believe we can better understand their work and quality.

The switch board of Dell Studio 1458 is connected with keyboard bezel, so remove the switch board and the screws holding the switch board in place, you call disassemble the keyboard easily. What’s more, we have to note that it is unwise to use a screwdriver to open the buckles around the keyboard, so it is better for us to use a plastic bar instead of a hard metal tool to protect your keyboard from scratch.

Do not forget to unplug the cable

When the switch board is removed, you can remove the keyboard. Before you remove the keyboard, you have to unplug the wire connected with keyboard and motherboard. Open the buckle on the motherboard, then you can take the keyboard off the laptop.

Studio 1458 surface C

After taking off the keyboard, we can see Studio 1458 are adopted within the framework of the metal material, this could make a more robust body, and also has very good resistance to stress.

Dell Studio 1458 features a Blu-ray, this machine’s optical drive is not able to be quickly dismantled, and we can see the drive only after removing the keyboard.

Laptop backlight lamp (CCFL) disassembly and replacement is not easy for most people, in this post, I’ll show you how to make it:

This task should be done in a clear and tidy room to make sure that everything is in order. Make some notes in case that you forget the whole process. And, you’d better prepare some plate to put the accessories. Besides, take pictures for each step, which is useful for you to assemble the screen and check whether it is right. At last, when the job is done, do not forget to clean the screen with the compressed air rather than the cloth.

Take the screen apart to gain access to the laptop backlight lamp (CCFL).

1 Remove sticky tape and foil from the back of the screen and put it in the plate for use later.

2 Unglue tape from the backlight cables.

3 The green circuit board was glued to the plastic frame with a double sided tape. Carefully unglue the circuit board. Do not flex or bend the circuit board.

4 Place the LCD screen on the side and start removing the metal frame securing the LCD to the plastic frame. With a small screwdriver to unlock the latches on all sides of the frame.

5 The frame, LCD with the circuit board and screen base have been separated. Be careful, do not touch internal components with your fingers. Put the internal components in the plate.

6 There will be a few transparent layers inside. Carefully remove them from the screen base. Do not separate the layers, just put them aside together.

7 Start removing the metal cover from the backlight lamp (CCFL).

8 The backlight lamp (CCFL) cables are routed through small plastic hooks. Unroute the backlight lamp cables.

9 Ok, let us move to the key part – remove the backlight lamp and reflector. The backlight lamp is secured inside the reflector so you have to remove both and then separate them.

10 The reflector is glued to the screen base with a double sided tape. Unattached the reflector from the screen base.

11 Now, we can remove the backlight lamp.
Note:In order to access the backlight lamp leads you’ll have to remove the rubber caps from both side of the lamp. You’d better wear the rubber gloves when touching the backlight lamp.

12 Cabled on both sides of the backlight lamp are soldered to the backlight leads. In order to access the leads you’ll have to remove the black insulator on both side of the lamp.
Unsolder both cables from the old backlight lamp and solder them to a new one.

13 At last, test the new backlight lamp (CCFL) before you install it back into the screen. Connect the backlight lamp into the inverter board and turn on the laptop. The backlight lamp should light up.

On some laptops the backlight lamp will not light up until the video cable is connected to the LCD screen. In this case you’ll have to assemble the LCD screen and then test it. If it still does not work, review the pictures that you have taken, maybe you will find out something.

When we talk about the netbook, most of us will think think about the Lenovo S10, HP Mini 1000,but there is another netbook you should take into consideration that is BenQ U101 Netbook. If a light laptop will be appear you, a netbook with fashin style will appear you, the BenQ U101 Netbook will of course appeare you!

The outlook of the BenQ U101 is very personal, which is designed with the inspiration of web linguistic symbols. It is a cute style with the color options of white, black, blue and pink. And the BenQ U101 is with a more rugged case design, it comes with better plastic raw materials to protect it from wear and tear.

BenQ Joybook Lite U101 comes with a 10.1 inch TFT LCD display with the resolution of 1024 x 576 pixels, which is less than the standard resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. With the glossy screen and LED back light, it can be easily viewed directly in sunlight. What you should know is that the BenQ U101 is the first netbook with an aspect ratio screen of 16:9 instead of the 16:10. You can enjoy watching movies without those ugly black bars that you see on the other screens!

The keyboard of BenQ U101 is 90 percent that of a full-size keyboard. The keys are 16mm wide and have a 1mm gap between them. You can use the keys comfortably, and it is easy for you to typing. While we wish that the right Shift key is in its usual location next to the question mark key instead be placed to the right of the Up arrow.

The keypad on the BenQ U101 is good, it gives us the felling that we were navigating the cursor around the desktop, while the trackpad is below the mouse buttons, the left- and right-click buttons are just one long piece of plastic rather than two individual buttons.

The BenQ U101 is very light, it still just weighs 1.1kg with the containing of 3 cell battery. With a 3-cell battery, the BenQ U101 just supports up to three hours. However, BenQ U101 provides 6-cell lithium-ion battery which can last up to eight hours of continuous use.

The speakers are in front of the BenQ Joybook Lite U101, the volume is loud enough and the voice is in good quality, it can competent enough for the casual movie experience.

The BenQ U101 is powered by the Intel ATOM N270 (1.6GHz) processor, with Intel 945GSE + ICH7-M chipset, integrated with Intel GMA950 graphics core. In other aspects, the u101 is featuring 1G DDR2 RAM, 320G 5400rpm HDD, Ethernet, and built-in Bluetooth.

With the reference to the interfaces of the BenQ U101, it contains three USB ports, a VGA port, 4-in-1 card reader, audio input / output port, RJ45 LAN port, DC power supply interface and kensington security key, headphone, and a microphone jack, etc. It is good enough for people who are used it with office works and entertainment.

BenQ U101 right side:4-in-1 card reader, audio input / output port,2 USB ports,RJ45 LAN port, kensington key lock,

The BenQ U101 has the SSD + HDD design, so we can use the SSD as a bootable system disk, and HDD as a storage hard drive. With them, we can have a short boot time and a larger storage. So the SSD + HDD are the perfect design.
the hard drive in the Joybook Lite U101 is the loudest we have heard in a netbook. The hard drive is a 5400 RPM one and offers decent data read / write speeds.

BenQ U101 has another feature which is proprietary QData Trove 3.1 application. This program simplifies data backup and restore with a user-friendly interface. Resetting the machine back to its factory settings is no problem with the QData Trove.

What I want to tell you is that this netbook is well priced, if you want a netbook, I think it is a no bad choice.

A recent laptop reliability survey about three year malfunction rates by manufacturer has come out according to the PC warranty providers SquareTrade. SquareTrade randomly selected over 30,000 laptops and netbooks for the study. Acer, Apple, Asus, Dell, Gateway, HP, Lenovo, Sony, and Toshiba all had at least one thousand laptops each within that sample group.

The result shows that the Asus and Toshiba are the most reliable latops which took the No.1 and No.2 spot. Asus and Toshiba came out on top to become the most reliable manufacturers, with fewer than 16 percent having a hardware malfunction over three years. The following laptop is Sony, while the Apple was just taking the No.4 spot. Behind them are Dell, Lenovo, Acer, Gateway , HP and Hewlett-Packard which came in at No.5 to No.10.

According to the report, there are 31 percent of laptops fail completely within three years of purchase which contains hardware malfunctions and accidental problems. Of these failures, hardware fault is up to 20.4% while the accidental problems just account for 10.6%. The report showed that netbooks’s malfunctions will have a 20% rate which is higher than the entry-level laptops and the high-end laptops with just 21% and 18%.

“It’s not really surprising that Apple’s in the middle of the pack,” said Vince Tseng, the vice president of marketing at SquareTrade. “What was surprising was that Asus came out on top.”

According to SquareTrade’s data, Apple netbooks priced ess than $400 has a higher fail rate of 23% than that priced between $400 and $1,000, and higher than the notebooks that cost more than $1,000 at the rate of 38%.

While in the first year, all notebooks just have 4.7% failed with the hardware malfunction and 12.7% in the second year and 20.4% by the time of 3 years.

“It’s just a guess, but one explanation for the higher failure rate of netbooks is that the components are typically cheaper,” Tseng said when asked why netbooks failed at a higher rate than more expensive notebooks. “Early on, when component costs were fairly high for netbook makers because of their low volume, they were taking the lowest bidder on components.”

Asus is the best on malfunction rates with 15.6 percent, Apple just standed on the fourth spot with 17.4 percent, while HP performed the worst with 25.6 percent of laptops malfunctioning within three years.

People who purchase the laptop without taking these into consideration will have a new opinion about these laptops.

We have roughly talked about Lenovo ThinkPad X200 before （Laptop Lenovo Thinkpad x200 Review）. Today, more details about the Lenovo ThinkPad X200 will be talked about. As we know, Lenovo thinkpad x200 portable notebook is popular for its beautiful design and multi-function. It has excellent quality for built-in System Update that is easy to update software.
The x200’s display is a 12.1 widescreen ultraportable which features a sharp 1,280×800 native resolution that’s usually on 14.1-inch or even 15.4-inch displays. Its dimension is 29.5cm x 21.1cm – 23.4cm x 3.6cm. Weighing in around 3.8lbs with the 8-cell extended battery, this 12.1″ tablet is still light and thin enough to take where ever you go.

ThinkPad X200 has plenty of room for the keyboard, it’s wider case is suitable for the same keyboard used on Lenovo’s 14- and 15-inch ThinkPads. So it’s comfortable for typing with no adjustments necessary for smaller keys you often find on ultraportables. The Shift and Enter buttons are full sized. We are using the Enter button so frequently, so I think no people will deny this perfect design. While the Fn keys across the top are separated in sections, we will get used to it just for a period. And the PgUp, PgDn, Home and End keys are the same way.

The ThinkPad X200 has a typical trackpoint. When you get used to it, you will find it is your best choice. The red rubber nub has nice grip and your finger just needs to move a little bit to navigate. The standard pen is great. The pen can be used comfortably and with good feedback. It even has an eraser, it is a convenient feature when you make a mistake.

The ThinkPad X200 adopted the “owl-like” fan design which can ruduce the heat and noise. The fan works quietly and well , you could hold the tablet for hours and not be bothered by excessive heat. You can put your hand up to the heat vent area, you can feel that the laptop si still cool.

The x200 is available for the various wireless connectivities such as Wi-Fi , WWAN and BlueTooth. The x200 is availanle for the Intel WiFi Link 5100, WiFi Link 5300, Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 5350 and ThinkPad 11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express.

Another option with the X200 is Bluetooth. It’s definitely a good function for those that want to use a wireless Bluetooth mouse or pair the X200 with a PDA or Smart Phone device. GPS option is also built-in.

There is a choice of built-in WWAN for the ThinkPad X200. As every x200 has this function,so what you should do is place it into the lid area. There is no doubt that there will be an increasing need to use this function.

Our ThinkPad X200 contains a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 processor and integrated Intel GMA X4500 HD graphics. It’s Intel Core 2 Duo processor ripped through various business applications including Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Project among others. The x200 comes with a 100GB (7200 rpm) hard drive, 2GB of RAM ( upgradable to 4GB)

Moreover, the X200’s functions are various. On the left side of the laptop, there are power jack, heat vent, USB port, monitor-out port, Gigabit Ethernet, USB port, ExpressCard 54mm slot, wireless on-off switch .
